Dear Raleigh County Schools Parents and Guardians,
On Monday, April 8, 2024, it is anticipated between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM that our region will experience a partial solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and Earth, blocking all or a portion of the sun’s rays.
Medical professionals advise it is always dangerous to look directly at the sun without appropriate eye protection. Out of an abundance of caution, Raleigh County Schools (RCS) will be taking extra steps for your child’s safety.
•RCS will follow a regular schedule on Monday, April 8, 2024.
•All schools have been encouraged to share the solar eclipse viewing experience with students by utilizing television feeds or internet live streams.
•Resources and lessons about the solar eclipse are available from the West Virginia Department of Education, NASA, and other science outlets.
•School staff will advise students of the dangers of looking directly at the sun at any time, especially during the solar eclipse.
•Students will not be permitted outside for any activities other than those planned and approved by the principal during the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This includes recess, athletics, band or other outdoor after school activities.
•As students are dismissed, staff will be on hand to instruct students not to look directly at the sun and to monitor as they exit the building.
The eclipse may occur during dismissal time. RCS asks parents to reinforce the dangers of looking at the sun and to remind their children not to look directly at the sun on their way home from school on Monday, April 8, 2024.
We appreciate your understanding and support during this unique learning experience and ask that you talk with your children about the eclipse prior to school on Monday, April 8.
If your child will be attending a Preschool in Raleigh County next year join us on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM at the Raleigh County Convention Center.

MHES: For our Holiday dress up days, tomorrow is wear green and Friday is festive sock day! We are excited to announce we won the attendance contest and will have a visit from WWHS band and choir on Friday! Students will also be given a bag of fruits and vegetables from the Pop Up Market on Friday. Thank you all for your support and have a wonderful evening!

MHES: Reminder that students may wear school appropriate costumes to school tomorrow. If your child decorated a pumpkin those can be turned in as students come in the morning.
MHES: Reminder that students may wear costumes to school on October 31 if they would like. These must be school appropriate. If anyone would be in need of a costume please call the office or Mrs. Seabolt. We do have some new costumes that were donated to the school that we could give to a student needing one.
MHES: Cinnamon rolls will be here tomorrow! If you ordered cinnamon rolls or coffee, your order may be picked up from 9:30 until 4:30 in the office tomorrow! All orders need picked up tomorrow to keep the cinnamon rolls fresh. Have a wonderful evening!
MHES: Students in kindergarten-5th grades have all finished taking beginning of year benchmarks with the iReady assessment. These reports were sent home as classrooms finished assessments. These will serve as guides for teachers to monitor the progress of your child throughout the year. If you have any questions about these reports please contact your child's teacher next week. We look forward to working with each of you to ensure the progress of each student.

MHES: We will start selling our Friday ice creams tomorrow! Your child can pay $1 each Friday to your teacher or you can pay for the entire semester online on our school cash page. Directions were sent home earlier this week! Feel free to call the office any time with questions!

MHES: flowers will be ready for pickup tomorrow from 10:30-2:30 and 4:00-6:00 in the gym. Please come to the office if picking up during the school day.
